Earlier this month, Palliative Care Australia and Painaustralia advocated for critical issues in pain management at the end of life at the Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care event.
The event was co-convened by Senator Kerrynne Liddle and Senator Raff Ciccone. We’d like to thank Senator Liddle for the warm words of support she delivered on their behalf and thank The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, for taking the time to meet with attendees and view the pain management resources on display.
Highlights of the event included Painaustralia showcasing a new My Pain assessment Communication Tool (MPaCT), developed in partnership with patients and the Dragon Claw Charity.
The event also featured an informative panel discussion on the key challenges facing Australians when it comes to effective pain management.
Palliative Care Australia have joined ANZSPM, AdPha, PSA, PCNA, Pain Australia, and Ageing Australia to develop an 11-point plan to resolve shortages of palliative care medicines.
The plan centres around the PBS Palliative Care Schedule, managing temporary supply disruptions, and managing long-term supply risks.
