This November, we celebrate National Rural Health Month to celebrate the success stories of rural healthcare champions who have weathered the storms to access healthcare in their communities.
We know there are inequities that rural, regional and remote Australians face when trying to access health care. Each person living rurally is missing out on $848 of healthcare funding each year, which equates to a $6.55 billion annual health underspend. Despite the huge economic contribution from our rural communities to Australia’s economy, they still lack access to basic health care, resulting in higher mortality and disease burden than their city counterparts.
