The Alliance has made a submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport Inquiry into the Health Impacts of Alcohol and Other Drug Use in Australia. This Inquiry was re-referred by the Hon. Mark Butler MP on 28 August 2025. This submission is an updated version of The Alliance’s 2024 submission 

In this submission, the Alliance have used this opportunity to provide the Committee with updated data, additional healthcare models. The Alliance has recommended a coordinated National Rural Health Strategy and targeted investment to strengthen the rural health workforce, innovative multidisciplinary care models, and sustainable funding mechanisms to address alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges in rural and remote communities. This includes increasing research, grant funding, and co-designed health promotion and education initiatives to identify service gaps, reduce stigma, and improve AOD prevention, treatment access, and workforce capacity in MM4–7 areas.
