The rural and remote health stakeholders need to take full advantage of the workforce of today to be able to plan and mentor the workforce of the future.
Nurse practitioners can provide health services today and in the future.
Rural Remote Generalist Nurse Practitioners are not utilised effectively to work alongside or in conjunction with medical, allied health and nursing combined teams.
Health service stakeholders need to include Nurse Practitioner positions to transform health care.
Funding is one way to secure these positions, however the funding does not exist.
One solution is for health stakeholders to reassess positions that cannot and have not been filled and evaluate the needs of a community to redesign the workforce with the aim of delivering equity and sustainable health care.
