Angel Flight’s 8000 volunteers who live across this vast country are the charity’s lifeblood. They are rare gems in this fast paced, egocentric world, with common traits of community spirit, compassion, care, and a strong desire to use their skills and resources to make a difference to those living in rural Australia.

World record holding aviator, 20-year-old, Solomon Cameron of Bendigo, is one of those rare gems, joining Angel Flight in late 2023 as their youngest ever pilot.

Solomon’s affinity with the charity began in 2019 at age 15 when he set a world record as the youngest pilot to solo circumnavigate Australia, flying 15,000km across Australia whilst raising funds and awareness for Angel Flight. Seven weeks later the teenager landed back in his hometown of Bendigo where he high tailed it back to his Year 10 classroom.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Solomon took his first trial flight at 12 and quickly developed an obsession for flying. He recalls feeling moved by the iconic Angel Flight TV commercial which sparked a passion for making a difference to those living remotely who struggle to access vital health care.

The passionate aviator epitomises the spirit of Angel Flight, flying across regional and rural South Australia and Victoria to help rural Australian access the medical care they need and deserve.

On his very first Angel Flight mission from Mildura to Essendon, Solomon flew Kate Guthercole and her baby who needs ongoing medical care.

“The round trip by car would be 1100km so we are very grateful for the service Angel Flight provides,” said Ms Guthercole.

“Solomon was so helpful and kind, assisting us on and off the flight, pointing out sights along the way like his home airport and letting us know when we will be landing.”

“I believe Solomon will do amazing things in life being so young and already achieving the level of success he already has.”

Recently completing his sixth mission, Solomon transported a woman from Aldinga to Mt Gambier for life saving treatment.

“We are thrilled with the advent of a young, yet mature and experienced pilot to help our rural friends across both Victoria and South Australia to access the healthcare they are entitled to,” remarks Marjorie Pagani – Angel Flight CEO.

“Solomon is well beyond his years and an excellent aviator- an absolute asset to Angel Flight and we encourage more like him to apply to join our team.”

The young gun who has racked up 700+ flying hours says it’s “an honour at my young age to be in a position where I can help others in need.”

“My father is a pilot and a health professional, and I’ve witnessed the positive difference health care makes to rural communities who for the most part go without.”

Statistics provided by National Rural Health Alliance shows that the burden of disease and death increases with remoteness. Angel Flight is commitment to closing the gap in health care between the cities and rural Australia by offering its free flight and drive service, however the charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the generosity of private and corporate donations and those who fundraise on its behalf.

When Solomon is not flying his Piper PA 30 Twin Comanche for Angel Flight, he enjoys working as Flight Instructor in Murray Bridge, South Australia and going on health missions with his father to rural parts of Victoria.
