The National Rural Health Alliance is saddened to hear of the death of The Hon Tim Fischer.
Tim was country through and through. In thirty years as a State and Federal politician, he won the respect of country and city people alike, giving him unequalled authority to speak about issues affecting rural communities. He was a larger than life character with a real passion and commitment to improving the lives of people in rural and remote Australia.
“The particular hand Tim and his family were dealt, meant that he had a close and intimate understanding of the health service challenges faced by people in the bush. He was genuine in his concern and worked hard to improve their circustances on all fronts.
“Rural affairs - including those relating to health and wellbeing - have lost a devoted and effective advocate in Tim Fischer,” said Tanya Lehmann, Chair of the National Rural Health Alliance.
The Alliance sends its sincere condolences to Tim’s wife Judy, and their sons Harrison and Dominic.
