‘People in rural and remote areas face a range of stressors unique to living outside major cities.

‘Rates of self-harm and suicide increase with remoteness and people who experience suicidality, are more likely than the general population to have a mental health disorder or condition,’ said Alliance Chief Executive Susi Tegen speaking at the 2023 Rural Mental Health Conference on 9 November 2023 in Albury, NSW.

'To truly make a difference for rural Australia's health, we need to take a comprehensive approach that considers the challenges faced by rural communities,' she added.
