Oncology massage for country Australia

Recently the Alliance met with Kylie Ochsenbein, Managing Director of Oncology Massage Limited (OMLtd). OMLtd is a not-for-profit training charity, providing specialist training in oncology massage techniques.

Oncology massage has been shown to improve the quality of life for people with cancer, reducing the side effects of conventional treatment and the symptoms of the disease process itself (such as pain, fatigue, anxiety, nausea, depression and disturbed sleep).

Over the past 8 years, OMLtd has established an extensive national listing of qualified oncology massage therapists. Its goal for the next three years is to further expand this network to encompass more rural and regional areas, so that no matter where you live, you can find an oncology massage therapist near you. To do this, OMLtd funds both regionally based massage therapists to attend training in city areas, and also offers courses in regional areas to smaller community groups.

"If you're a massage therapist, and keen to provide this massage modality in your community, then get in touch with us so we can talk about how we can make oncology massage training accessible and affordable for you and your community," Kylie said.

Visit the OMLtd website http://www.oncologymassagetraining.com.au/ for information on the research and efficacy of oncology massage therapy, the courses on offer, how you might support their work, and where you can find a therapist near you.
