Partyline issue 81 screen grab

We focus on mental health and wellbeing in rural Australia in our latest Partyline issue and aim to create awareness of the many challenges that Australia’s rural communities face on a day-to-day basis when it comes to accessing mental health care.

Even though data shows that the reported prevalence of mental illness in rural and remote Australia appears similar to that of major cities, rural communities have less access to mental health services than cities and rates of self-harm and suicide increase with remoteness.

It is vital that mental health is treated equally with physical health, to eliminate the associated stigma and make mental health and wellbeing a priority.

We invite you to engage with this rich collection of articles from across Australia, and to take examples from the inspiring stories to launch initiatives of your own that benefit rural communities.
