We focus on women’s health and wellbeing in our latest Partyline issue and aim to create awareness of the many challenges that Australia’s rural women face on a day-to-day basis when it comes to accessing health care.
Although one-third of Australia’s women live in rural, regional and remote areas, healthcare accessibility is at a marginal level. The problem is exacerbated as rural women’s everyday realities are different and more complex than urban women, with challenging socioeconomic and environmental conditions.
With Women’s Health Week falling on 5–11 September, the International Day of Rural Women on October 15, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 and October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Partyline saw this as a fitting time to highlight the significant healthcare issues faced by Australia’s rural women, as well as the innovative models of care adopted in the community to address them.
We invite you to engage with the rich collection of articles in Issue 80, from across Australia, and to take examples from the inspiring stories to launch initiatives of your own that benefit rural women.
