The first-ever trial of the Alliance’s Primary care Rural Integrated Multidisciplinary Health Service (PRIM-HS) model in Mareeba, Queensland began with kick-off meetings last week between the Alliance and the Mareeba and Communities Family Healthcare (MCFHC) board to ensure the successful implementation of the $1.57 million project (over four years).
Funded by the Federal Government under the Innovative Models of Care (IMOC) grants, the PRIM-HS trial will provide an opportunity for the Mareeba community to build and improve access to healthcare delivery. The PRIM-HS model has been designed by the Alliance to offer a model of care that is tailored to the needs of rural communities where urban-based models do not work.
MCFHC is a social enterprise, overseeing a medical clinic and other health and wellbeing services in their community. They will be working with their community and north Queensland health organisations to best use the funding to build on the existing workforce capacity to deliver a range of multidisciplinary health services.
