The August 2014 edition of Partyline, the Alliance's flagship magazine, is now available online and posted copies will be arriving soon in subscribers’ letterboxes.

In this 50th issue of Partyline and we look back at past issues since its beginning in 1999 as the official newsletter of the Friends of the Alliance.
Topics addressed include: dental and oral health, especially of babies and toddlers living in rural areas; the challenges of rolling out the National Disability Insurance Scheme in rural and remote Australia; and access to mental health services in rural and remote areas.

There are stories covering: the start of the National Injury Insurance Scheme; an overview of internet-based programs to help people with mental health problems; the Staying Strong Telehealth Project delivering care to older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; pain services in North Queensland; the health behaviours of young rural women; eye health; the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship group for rural and remote allied health; and WA’s Southern Inland Health Initiative delivering expanded and improved health services across a large geographic area.

In other stories the achievements are acknowledged of rural doctors; nursing and allied health students from Victoria; a former Des Murray Scholarship winner; and Rural Health West, celebrating its 25th year.

This edition announces the opening of the call for abstracts for the 13th National Rural Health Conference. Abstracts must be submitted by 28 November 2014 and the Conference will be held in Darwin on 24-27 May 2015.
