Recommendations

Throughout the Caring for Country Kids Conference, delegates were encouraged to visit the Sharing Shed to submit suggestions and recommendations for consideration by the Recommendations Committee and to comment on the range of recommendations submitted by other delegates.    The full set of recommendations can be viewed on the Sharing Shed

At the conclusion of the Conference, all recommendations and comments were collated and considered in the context of the key themes that emerged over the course of the Conference.

The overarching issues that emerged following three days of exhilarating presentations and discussion were:

  • the need for greater engagement of rural and remote children and their families in decision making affecting their health and wellbeing;
  • the need to specifically support better health and wellbeing of rural and remote mothers and young children in the three years up until the baby reaches two years of age; and
  • the need to address and improve the appalling impact of racism within our health services on health and wellbeing of our rural and remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Children’s Healthcare Australasia and the National Rural Health Alliance have carefully considered the range of recommendations and comments submitted and have developed 12 key outcomes that they will be pursuing and we encourage anyone with the capacity to also consider promoting these recommendations.
