State and Territory funded Mental health service provision has increased strongly in rural and remote areas, such that rates in all areas are now broadly similar (Figure 2 and Table 7). The rate of State and Territory funded service provision is broadly similar in order of magnitude to those funded by Medicare described in Tables 4 to 6 above, but the nature of the service may differ, as may the professions of the staff providing these services. Rates of State and Territory funded mental health service provision tend to be higher outside Major cities (in contrast to the MBS funded services described in Tables 4 to 6 above), constituting the bulk (numerically) of services provided in Outer regional and especially remote areas.
