The status of people's health is heavily influenced by the social determinants of health - such things as completed years of education, income, employment, housing and transport as well as by their interaction with the health system. The social and economic determinants of health also include less visible or tangible things such as the amount of control a person has over their life, empowerment, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
