Having just presented on Remote Indigenous Oral Health and how Closing the Gap has missed this group altogether, I’m proposing that special attention be given to these recommendations from our session.

For Remote Indigenous oral health the cracks are deep and the gaps are wide
Closing the Gap requires funding for Oral Health Teams to do the work in Remote Communities
We seek a recognition & commitment in the NPA’s with acknowledgement of ACCHS sector and costs of Remoteness
and a commitment to move from rhetoric to reality

Additional emphasis on definition and clarity for system level data collection, identification of lead agency and co-ordinating bodies, and appropriate referral pathways for the issue of Indigenous youth suicide attempts.

Agree no ”grand entrance” but also new young people who initially have no local social connections need to be guided as to relevant options eg sport, social clubs, hobbies, art, drama.

And support for allied health professionals using telehealth – no stalls in exhibition for allied health, only medicine and nursing!!

Also appropriate CPD and professional or clinical supervision for allied health to retain them in their positions and build quality services! Particularly important as allied health are so diverse. Also, ”get the data” and have effective systems for documenting the outcomes of professional support and CPD initiatives
