The Board of the National Rural Health Alliance has confirmed the appointment of Mark Diamond to the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Alliance Chair, Tanya Lehmann, said that the move signals positive times ahead for both the Alliance and rural and remote health issues more generally.

Get the facts on mental health help


While mental health services in rural and remote parts of Australia are substantially more limited than in metropolitan areas, the good news is that there is an increasing number of telephone and online services that people can access to receive immediate, free and specialised assistance.

The Alliance has recently updated its Mental Health Help Sheet to include the full range of services available to people living in rural and remote areas of Australia.

The December 2017 issue of the Australian Journal of Rural Health is now available online.

This edition features articles on: the professional satisfaction of rural specialists; barriers to mental health support-seeking among farming and non-farming adults in rural South Australia; prevention of osteoporotic refractures in regional Australia; and breastfeeding support for mothers in rural Western Australia.
