A month to go...

It's the most important event of its kind in Australia and there's only a month to go before the 14th National Rural Health Conference kicks off in Cairns.

The Conference is regarded as the pre-eminent event that brings together people from across the rural and remote health sector – consumers, practitioners, managers, policy makers, academics, carers, researchers and students.

The 14th in Cairns is generating strong interest and will be an opportunity for the rural and remote health sector to flex its muscle again and make itself heard.

More than 1,000 delegates are expected. There are 220 concurrent speakers, 49 concurrent sessions and 28 keynote speakers. The Conference will showcase the services and products of 65 exhibitors. It is shaping up to be one epic rural health event!

Principal Sponsor of the Conference, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia is looking forward to being involved.

“The National Rural Health Conference is an opportunity for all in the rural health sector to come together in the interests of better health outcomes, and for health practitioners to refine and improve their skills on a continuing basis,” said Martin Laverty, CEO of the RFDS.

“It is an opportunity for people to collaborate and share ideas in real time, in an extraordinary, energised environment on how to improve health service access in rural and remote Australia. The RFDS is happy to be part of it, knowing that it will assist with our continuing commitment to serving country Australia, as we have done for almost 90 years.”

The Conference also provides extensive networking and social opportunities, as well as the chance for everyone present to contribute through the Sharing Shed to a set of agreed proposals for action. These proposed actions will be presented to the Assistant Minister for Health, Dr David Gillespie, on the final day.

For early arrivals in Cairns, prior to the official Conference opening, there will be a range of events and workshops. To view the program for these events and the Conference itself, and to register for any of them go to: http://www.ruralhealth.org.au/14nrhc/
