One of the country's leading former political and international reporters, Catherine McGrath, will act as MC for the 14th National Rural Health Conference in Cairns from April 26 to 29.
The organising body, the National Rural Health Alliance, has warmly welcomed Catherine to the role for the biennial Conference, the most significant rural health event in Australia.

“Her impressive professional background, encompassing a career in journalism spanning 30 years, means we know our Conference proceedings will be in good hands.”
Catherine covered Federal politics for two decades for ABC and SBS TV in roles including Chief Political Correspondent and Bureau Chief. She was earlier ABC Asia Editor and ABC South-East Asia Correspondent.
In addition to her many public speaking engagements, Catherine is now also working as a strategic media consultant, trainer and facilitator, and says she's delighted to be involved with the Conference.
“It's a terrific organisational team, a wonderful program filled with prominent keynote speakers and a variety of presentations covering a diverse range of topics and issues. I'm very much looking forward to being a part of it all,” Catherine said.
“Seven million people live and work in rural and remote Australia and they rely on the brilliant, dedicated medical and health professionals who work tirelessly on their behalf in the clinics, hospitals and nurse stations that are spread throughout our country.
“I am very excited to be in a position to help delegates share insights, research, planning and training methods leading to better health outcomes for all.”
More than 1,000 participants are expected to attend the four-day Conference and keynote speakers will include leaders in rural and remote health from around Australia and internationally, among them, CEO of the National Health and Medical Research Council, Anne Kelso, and Janine Mohamed, CEO of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives.
