Almost 1,100 people passionate about rural and remote health in Australia are ready to participate in the most important event of its kind in the country, the 14th National Rural Health Conference, when it gets underway in Cairns next week.
Key representatives from the rural health sector in Australia, including health professionals, cultural identities, health service managers and providers, students, consumers, carers and those interested in the health of people in rural and remote Australia, have already registered to take part.
More than simply a networking opportunity, the biennial Conference provides for the active involvement of attendees in assisting to set the future direction for the health and wellbeing of the seven million people living in areas outside Australia’s main city centres.
The most comprehensive line-up of speakers, presentations and concurrent sessions yet includes Chief Advocate of World Vision Australia, Tim Costello; 2017 Senior Australian of the Year; Sr Anne Gardiner; Senior Medical Advisor at Apunipima Cape York Health Council, Mark Wenitong; and the Chair of the National Mental Health Commission, Allan Fels.
The diverse program, encompassing a total of 220 sessions and more than 70 health service and product exhibitors, ranges from topics on rural workforce sustainability, LGBTI-specific health services, alcohol advertising in sport in Australia, suicide prevention in schools, and remote health workforce safety to name a few.
Delegates are also encouraged to actively participate and make submissions as part of the unique and innovative Sharing Shed, used to produce a set of Priority Recommendations to be delivered to the Assistant Minister for Health, Dr David Gillespie, on the final day.
