Australia is indeed a sunburnt country with plenty of sweeping plains, but what's your view of the rural and remote areas of this wide brown land of ours?
In conjunction with the 14th National Rural Health Conference being held in Cairns from April 26 to 29, Friends of the Alliance is calling on you to “show and tell” your love for the rural life by submitting an entry (or two) in its Photo and Poetry Competitions.
The theme for 2017 is “bright, vibrant, rural communities” and the two separate categories of photographs and poetry each have cash prizes of $500 for the winner and $250 for runner-up.
CEO of the National Rural Health Alliance, David Butt, says the biennial amateur competitions promote a personalised interpretation of all things rural and remote for those who call it home.
“It's about celebrating the magic of these areas, a reflection in words and images of communities in those places that are far removed from our city centres.
“The competitions close on February 10, so we're encouraging people to get out there snapping or putting pen to paper on what it means to them.”
Previous entrants have submitted work ranging from odes inspired by “Blue Skies and Red Dirt”, to images of artistically interpreted landscapes and haunting portraits.
Finalists in each competition will be exhibited at the Conference where attending delegates will select the winning entries.
